Hey there! I'm Safiya — the creator behind Feast with Safiya. Mom, food photographer, and recipe developer, I wear many hats and somehow manage to keep them all on! I'm so glad you stopped by. Here, you'll find a blend of modern and authentic Indian recipes — the same ones I cook for my family week after week. Every recipe I share has gone through real testing, real tweaking, and plenty of taste testing before it lands here. I promise, you're in for a treat!
About Me
I'm an Indian-American who grew up in a small town in India, where food was never just sustenance — it was ritual, memory, and love. After moving to the United States, I planted my roots in Salt Lake City, Utah, and never looked back. I've spent years working in the tech space, supporting communities and collaborating with people across Salt Lake City. Building a career, a family, and a community here has made Utah undeniably home.
My kitchen is a reflection of that journey — fragrant with spices from my childhood, yet deeply shaped by the incredible friends I've made from every background imaginable. Utah's warmth and diversity continue to surprise and inspire me, and I can't wait to share the flavors that tell my story.
My Passion for Cooking
Cooking has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My earliest memories live in the kitchen — watching the women in my family work their magic, lending a hand with meals, and soaking in everything that happened around that stove. I even cooked my very first dish alongside my older brother in 4th grade, a moment that still makes me smile.
Those kitchens were never just about food. Stories flowed, bonds grew deeper, and love showed up without a single word. Family, friends, neighbors — whoever gathered around — left a mark on not just how I cook, but why I cook.
Modern-Authentic Recipes
Here you'll find a little bit of everything — traditional recipes close to my roots and others with a modern American twist. Marrying my American husband opened a whole new world of flavors, and I dove in headfirst. Expect recipes that speak to both Indian and non-Indian palates — think Indo-American Meatball Curry, Butter Chicken Lasagna, Tandoori Salmon Skewers, Sheet-Pan Chicken and Potatoes, and Hasselback Butternut Squash. My husband and kids serve as my most honest taste testers — and when they ask for seconds, I know a recipe earns its place here.
Cooking with Clean Ingredients
I follow in my mother's footsteps by cooking with wholesome, clean ingredients. My approach involves using plenty of veggies, a bit of meat, and an abundance of spices. Cooking with nutritious whole foods isn't just a fad for me; it's a lifestyle I've been raised on.
